Automatic payment calculation is based on several settings within the First Data system. The combination of settings determines how much an automatic payment will be and when it will pull from a cardholders checking or savings account. This summary explains how these settings will work together.
The three settings that go into the auto-pay set up are:
- Next Payment Message Code (Default - set at 3).
- Statement to Posting date (Default - set at 99 which will pull the auto pay on the due date).
- Auto-Pay Flag (code) picked by the card holder or the FI for the cardholder.
Auto Pay Flag 0 (Automatic Payments Disabled)
If an account has not been set up with auto-pay, the automatic payment flag/code will be set to a zero. No payments will be deducted from the cardholder’s checking or savings account.
Note: The cardholder designated checking or savings account can be from any financial institution.
Auto-pay Flag J or K
Code J or K (Customer Designated Amount)
These flags will allow a cardholder to specify how much they want to pay on each due date. If auto-pay flag J is chosen, the payment will pull from a checking account designated by the cardholder. If auto-pay flag K is chosen, the payment will pull from a savings account designated by the card holder.
Additional Information:
- If the customer designated amount is less than the unpaid minimum amount due, the system will withdraw the minimum payment amount from the designated checking or savings account.
- If the customer designated amount is greater than the last statement balance, the system will withdraw a payment in the amount of the last statement balance.
- Any additional (manual) payment or credit amounts made between the cycle date and the due date will be deducted from the cardholder designated amount.
- If a due date falls on a non-processing date (i.e. Saturday or a holiday) the automatic payment will be made on the prior processing date (i.e. Friday).
- A change to the designated amount will be effective after the next cycle date.
- The automatic payment flag may be changed from 0 to J or K one day prior to the due date for an automatic payment to happen.
Note: It is recommended that cardholders make the current payment due and plan on auto-pay pulling on the next due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be moved back to 0 one day prior to the due date to stop an automatic payment from happening.
Auto-pay Flag V or W
Code V or W (Customer Designated Amount Minus Cycle to Date Payments)
These flags will allow a cardholder to specify how much they want to pay on each due date. If flag auto-pay V is chosen, the payment will pull from a checking account designated by the cardholder. If flag auto-pay W is chosen, the payment will pull from a savings account designated by the card holder.
- The automatic payment flag may be changed from 0 to V or W one day prior to the due date for an automatic payment to happen.
Note: It is recommended that cardholders make the current payment due and plan on auto-pay pulling on the next due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be moved back to 0 one day prior to the due date to stop an automatic payment from happening.
Note: With the Next Payment Message Code set to 3 (default), there is no difference between the J/K flags and the V/W flags. If the Next Payment Message Code is set to 1, the V/W flags can generate a credit balance.
Auto-pay Flag 4 or 7
Code 4 or 7 (Full Statement Balance)
These flags will withdraw a payment in the amount of the last statement balance. If auto-pay flag 4 is chosen, the payment will pull from a checking account designated by the cardholder. If auto-pay flag 7 is chosen, the payment will pull from a savings account designated by the card holder.
Additional Information:
- Any additional (manual) payment or credit amounts made between the cycle date and the due date will be deducted from the new balance amount to be pulled on the due date.
- If a due date falls on a non-processing date (i.e. Saturday or a holiday) the automatic payment will be made on the prior processing date (i.e. Friday).
- A change from any auto-pay flag other than zero to any other auto-pay flag other than zero (i.e. current auto-pay flag of 4 changing to an auto- pay flag of 1) will be effective after the next cycle date. In other words, if this change is made one or two days prior to the due date the change will not be considered on that due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be changed from 0 to 4 or 7 one day prior to the due date for an automatic payment to happen.
Note: It is recommended that cardholders make the current payment due and plan on auto-pay pulling on the next due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be moved back to 0 one day prior to the due date to stop an automatic payment from happening.
Auto-pay Flag 1 or 5
Code 1 or 5 (Unpaid Billed Minimum Payment Due)
These flags will withdraw a payment in the amount of the last statement minimum payment due. If auto-pay flag 1 is chosen, the payment will pull from a checking account designated by the cardholder. If auto-pay flag 5 is chosen, the payment will pull from a savings account designated by the card holder.
Additional Information:
- Any additional (manual) payment or credit amounts made between the cycle date and the due date will be deducted from the new balance amount to be pulled on the due date.
- If a due date falls on a non-processing date (i.e. Saturday or a holiday) theautomatic payment will be made on the prior processing date (i.e. Friday).
- A change from any auto-pay flag other than zero to any other auto-pay flag other than zero (i.e. current auto-pay flag of 1 changing to an auto-pay flag of 2) will be effective after the next cycle date. In other words, if this change is made one or two days prior to the due date the change will not be considered on that due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be changed from 0 to 1 or 5 one day prior to the due date for an automatic payment to happen.
Note: It is recommended that cardholders make the current payment due and plan on auto-pay pulling on the next due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be moved back to 0 one day prior to the due date to stop an automatic payment from happening.
Auto-pay Flag 2 or 6
Code 2 or 6 (Full Statement Balance or Unpaid Billed Minimum Payment Due)
These flags will withdraw a payment in the amount of the last statement balance amount unless a credit or payment has already posted for that month. If a credit or payment has already posted for the month, an auto pay amount is withdrawn in the amount of any remaining minimum payment due. If auto-pay flag 2 is chosen, the payment will pull from a checking account designated by the cardholder. If auto-pay flag 6 is chosen, the payment will pull from a savings account designated by the card holder.
Additional Information:
- If a due date falls on a non-processing date (i.e. Saturday or a holiday) the automatic payment will be made on the prior processing date (i.e. Friday).
- A change from any auto-pay flag other than zero to any other auto-pay flag other than zero (i.e. current auto-pay flag of 2 changing to an auto- pay flag of 4) will be effective after the next cycle date. In other words, if this change is made one or two days prior to the due date the change will not be considered on that due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be changed from 0 to 2 or 6 one day prior to the due date for an automatic payment to happen.
Note: It is recommended that cardholders make the current payment due and plan on auto-pay pulling on the next due date.
- The automatic payment flag may be moved back to 0 one day prior to the due date to stop an automatic payment from happening.
